Surgical Services/Surgical Technology

Surgical technologists are vital members of the surgical team, and their education must integrate cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills, and professional behavior. Our program emphasizes patient safety, sterile technique, and collaboration within the perioperative environment to optimize the provision of quality patient care.

Surgical Technology Application Booklet

The Surgical Technology program is a selective-admissions program. Students are selected based on criteria outlined in the Surgical Technology Application Book.

Priority consideration for admission to the program will be given to those who have completed:

Program Overview

Courses in the Surgical Technology program are held on Massey campus and are face-to-face. The program is full-time with meeting times scheduled four to five times a week and consists of blended coursework, hands-on lab, and clinical components.

Students should be prepared to travel to any of the clinical education sites located within the four-county service district of ³Ô¹ÏÍø: St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, and Indian River counties. The program requires a minimum of 120 documented surgical procedures completed in the first scrub (80) and second scrub role (40) of the surgical technologist with cross-specialty exposure.

Students must complete all degree requirements to graduate and sit for the national certification exam. See the College Catalog for specific requirements for the A.S. in Surgical Services.

Note that illicit drug use, background check findings, convictions and immunization status may prevent your future employment. In addition, externship sites and employers may have regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds and immunization status.

Accreditation

The Surgical Services (Technology) Program at ³Ô¹ÏÍø is accredited by the (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the (ARC/STSA).
